    This subgroup researched various mechanisms that can be used to achieve the objectives of the system, prioritizing market and financial mechanisms over mandates.

    An Electronic Product DfE Rating System - The subgroup has chosen to focus on developing a methodology to assess design-for-environment for electronic products, especially design-for-end-of-life-management. Such a rating system would create an incentive for product designers/manufacturers to design products that reduce end-of-life costs and associated environmental impacts.

    Working Documents:

    Situational Analysis (PDF) - a brief description of the subgroup's rationale for selecting the project to develop an electronic product DfE rating system.

    Desired Attributes of an Assessment Methodology (PDF) - a list of desired attributes and characteristics of the assessment methodology.

    Model Design-for-Environment Assessment Tools (PDF) - brief descriptions of different tools that are used to assess the environmental characteristics of products; includes LEED (Green Buildings), TCO (electronics equipment), and others.

    Overview of DfE Assessment Standards (PDF) - a compilation of DfE assessment criteria for electronic products used in several eco-label standards and technical industry documents. All criteria relate to product design for end-of-life management.
