PlanetCon 2018 in Hillsboro Deemed Successful Event

On Saturday, Jan 6th, a free community recycle and swap event was held in Hillsboro at Lincoln Elementary.

About 250 residents attended, and they brought styrofoam (polystyrene code #6 to be recycled at Agilex), plastic films and bags (donated to TREX). They also encouraged residents to bring winter clothes donations (given to Family Promise), non-working holiday string lights (given to Far West Recycling), and holiday ornaments and decorations for exchange or swap.

We shared a booth with Cecelia Warner, who is running the “Shake & Fold” campaign to reduce paper towel usage.

We had about 35 people stop by and discuss our BYOC campaign, Rooster, EarthShare Oregon, Go Box, How to Recycle at Events guide, and other environmental topics.

The event was organized by Westside Master Recyclers. Results of the event will be posted on their site in the near future.

Great job by everyone who coordinated and volunteered, the event sounded like a huge success!
