Oregon Electronic Product Stewardship Legislation

We did it! SB 867 has passed the House and Senate,
and was signed by the Governor.

Earlier this year, Recycling Advocates drafted the initial language for Senate Bill 867. After months of uncertainty and haggling in legislative committees, the bill was passed and was signed by the the Governor. Senate Bill 867 creates an Advisory Committee on Electronics Product Stewardship that will work with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to develop rules for economically sustainable electronic products recycling, and it directs Metro to develop and implement a pilot program for recycling and reusing electronic products. Thanks go to RA members who acted on our Action Alerts by urging representatives and senators in Salem to support the bill. Our thanks also go to Senator Jackie Dingfelder and her staff for their months of active support of this bill. Look for our article on the next steps in electronics recycling in Oregon as we report on the immediate outcome of SB 867 in the October issue of the Recycling Advocates Newsletter.
