Oregon's oldest grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a sustainable future through local efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

e-Waste Reduction and Recycling Efforts

Recycling Advocates continues to be a strong watchdog in the e-Waste industry. The organization maintains on-going efforts to monitor and report back on e-Waste industry processes and developments. Accomplishments include:

  • Recycling Advocates closely monitored the Bottle Bill legislation (SB707) and the E-waste legislation (HB2626) as the bills progressed through both houses. Recycling Advocates kept its members informed and recruited their testimony to encourage passage of both bills.
  • For years Recycling Advocates has been working with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation to increase collection in Oregon.
  • Recycling Advocates sponsored the first electronics product stewardship legislation in Oregon, Senate Bill 867, which passed and was signed into law in 2003.
  • Recycling Advocates launched the ongoing Western Electronic Product Stewardship Initiative (WEPSI), a multi-stakeholder process intended to institute shared responsibility for electronic waste.
